To teach is to each his t. His t
crossed or doting eye blinded
by a teacher who makes him ache
for each cheat he has not mastered, each
charm not stammered, each master yet
uncharmed by his mastery, his style, wit
and his teachability, how able he is
to be like his teacher, liked by
his teacher, blinded like her-- cross
and dotty as if each teacher were
always the one, each student ever
golden, -faced and ruled and all day
adream in all the mean ways he measures up.
